U.S. Border Patrol
Metal Insignia
The U.S. Border Patrol did not have an official uniform until 1925. Although a unique badge was worn, the other metal insignia worn was that from the U.S. Immigration Service. In the 1930's unique insignia was developed and worn by the U.S. Border Patrol with the title Immigration Border Patrol. When the U.S. Border Patrol transferred from the U.S. Immigration Service - Department of Labor to the Department of Justice in 1940, new metal insignia was developed. This insignia was revised in 1970 with the change of the title from Border Patrol Inspector to Border Patrol Agent. The insignia has not changed under the Department of Homeland Security.
Some metal insignia was worn concurrently until everyone was equipped with the revised style.
